The Monroe City Council passed adding weekly recycling and yard debris services to the existing waste pickup during their Special Council Session on April 10, 2024. Recycling and Yard Debris carts will be delivered in May and the new services will start in June More information can be found here about the new services.

New Speed Limit
At the request of residents, Monroe City Council petitioned the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to reduce the speed in Monroe’s downtown core from 30 MPH to 25 MPH. On April 18, 2024, ODOT granted the request and will schedule the replacement of the existing 30 MPH signs as soon as possible.

PUBLIC NOTICE
A public meeting of the Budget Committee of the City of Monroe, Benton County, State of Oregon, to discuss the budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, will be held at the Monroe Community Center, 605 Main Street, Monroe, Oregon. The agenda for this meeting can be viewed here.
The meeting will take place on June 11, 2024 at 6:00 PM. The purpose of the meeting is continue deliberation of the FY 2024-25 budget and receive comment from the public on the budget. This meeting will discuss proposed fees and rate changes.
This is a public meeting where deliberation of the Budget Committee will take place. Any person may appear at the meeting and discuss the proposed programs with the Budget Committee.
A copy of the budget document may be inspected at Monroe City Hall, 664 Commercial Street, Monroe, Oregon, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except holidays or viewed online here.

PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED WASTE SERVICE COST INCREASE
Mayor Dan Sheets has called for a Special City Council meeting to be held on April 10, 2024, at 6:00 pm at the Monroe Community Center, 605 Main Street, Monroe. This is an open and public meeting.
The purpose of the Special Council meeting is to hold a public hearing regarding a proposed cost increase in Waste Services that would add weekly recycling and yard debris removal for residents within Monroe city limits. A decision by Council is expected at this meeting.
LAND USE HEARING
CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT TO ALLOW MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING
LOCATION: Vacant Lot (no address assigned), Kelly Street, Monroe (map/tax lot 14533AB05500)
The Monroe Planning Commission will be conducting a public hearing on Monday, February 5, 2024, for the purpose of accepting any and all public comment prior to deliberating and deciding on allowing a non-conforming use of property currently zoned as Medium Density Residential.
LAND USE ACTION REQUEST: Allow construction of multi-family housing on vacant property zoned medium density residential. Diversify and expand Monroe’s housing base by providing additional housing that addresses the shortage of multifamily homes and other smaller, more naturally-affordable units within the City.
BASED UPON THE FINDINGS OF FACTS, STAFF IS RECOMMENDING THE PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVE THE PETITIONER’S REQUEST TO CONDITIONALLY ALLOW CONSTRUCTION OF A FOUR UNIT MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING DEVELOPMENT ON THE SUBJECT PROPERTY.
Copies of the application and staff report will be available for review seven (7) days prior to the public hearing date at Monroe City Hall during normal business hours. This will be an open and recorded public hearing prior to the Planning Commission deliberation and recommendation. The Planning Commission is the decision-making body for this type of land use action though it can be appealed to Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals (LUBA).
