The Monroe Community Library is operated by the Benton County Library District which is supported by all the taxpayers of the county. But the building belongs to the Monroe community. A group of neighbors recognized the need to plan now for the building’s preservation into the future. The result is a partnership of South Benton Community Enhancement Association, the City of Monroe, and the Corvallis-Benton County Library Foundation to create a permanent fund to repair and maintain the elements of the library as they wear out
The Monroe Community Library Legacy Fund is unique: it is dedicated exclusively to the Library’s capital maintenance, enhancement, and preservation: long term expensive projects like roof and heating system replacement. All the funds raised will be dedicated to the Monroe Community Library building, invested by the trusted Corvallis-Benton County Library Foundation and disbursed through a community process managed by a group of volunteers working with South Benton Community Enhancement Association.
2019 was a successful year! Not only were the partnership and fund established. Volunteers also raised a healthy amount of money to start the fund. However, it is not enough to provide long term stability for the building’s preservation.
