Consider Serving on the City Budget Committee!
The City Budget Committee is made up of the 7-member council and 7 electors within the City with the City Administrator as the appointed Budget Officer. The main function of the Committee is to create and present a draft budget to the City Council for approval and adoption.
What to Expect
The Committee typically holds 4-5 meetings a year with a majority of them in May and June. To start the process, the Budget Committee first conducts a public hearing. Then, the Committee reviews, edits, changes, and approves a draft budget with recommendations to the City Council. Finally, the City Council will conduct another public hearing to review and adopt the budget prior to June 30th, the end of the City’s fiscal year.
How to Apply
In order to be considered, you must be a registered voter within the City of Monroe and submit a letter of interest addressed to the Monroe City Council. There are terms available for 1 year and 3 years. The Council hopes to fill the 3-4 slots at the March 27th council meeting.
